An Ode to Smokey Joe the Hipster

I would like you to meet Mr Smokey Joe
If it's a hipster your after he's the guy to know

He rolls his own durries and wears a big coat
And like a duck to water he's not one to gloat

He knows the cool bands before they exist
And that's cooler than hip if your getting my gist

But his claim to glory and hipster crown
Is the growth on his face, his beard so brown

Without this feature he would cease to exist
Be but a vapour of air or a patch of mist

It signifies that he is the dominant man
Because without the beard he's probably bland

So the lesson to learn and heed this time
And the reason for this here hipster ryhme

Is that growing a beard could be your best move
Get you outta your funk and into the groove

This beard could become your very best feature
And transform you into a hairy masculine creature

Bearded Elvis

© Mulga 2012, Bearded Elvis, Ink on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

Today ( 23 March 2013) marks the day 56 years ago that Elvis’s debut album, “Elvis Presley” was released.

I drew a picture of him with a sweet beard.

You can buy a print of this artwork here http://mulgatheartist.com.au/shop/

An Ode to Bearded Elvis

Most geezers think Elvis aint alive
But the truth is he’s just in disguise

I saw him the other day cruising down the street
He had a beard so spectacular and long and neat

Turns out he’s been hiding away
Behind his beard and bales of hay

All those many, many moons ago
He grew tired of the crowds and the Elvis show

So he pretended to die and began to grow a mo
Then the mo became a goatee that hung so low

Then came the chops and a full beard in time
Thus concludes this story and bearded Elvis rhyme

Laser Head Lance

© Mulga 2012, Laser Head Lance, Acrylic on Board, 70 x 120 cm

An Ode to Laser Head Lance

Laser Head Lance is a slippery old cat
Lives in a world of shadows covered up by his hat

The one day the wind turned from breeze into gale
Blew up his hat like a boat under sail

Those secrets within did explode out his head
And the colour of his hands were a deep shade of red

His secrets revealed that he'd been quite bad
And the fallout was severe and the people were mad

Oh how the mighty have fallen and the proud do stumble
Now Laser Head Lance is humbler than humble

Lion Hat Leigh

© Mulga 2012, Lion Hat Leigh, Posca on Paper, 42 x 59 cm

An Ode to Lion Hat Leigh

Lion hat Leigh lives high in a tree
His Beard turned green, a sight to be seen

Because of his hat he's chief of the tribe
He's also very muscly, of this is do not lie

His hat was once a lion of the mountain kind
The taste of human flesh, it really did not mind

One night this lion it did pounce on Leigh
As he lay in his sleep he got bit on the knee

Then Leigh arose and battled this lion
Gave it a head butt and then it lay dying

He picked it up and put it on his head
Then lay back down to sleep in his bed

The end

Viking Valgerd The Sad

© Mulga 2012, Viking Valgerd The Sad, Acrylic Paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

This is my latest submission for CreatureMag as part of Mulga's Zombie Zoo.

An Ode to Valgerd The Sad

Sourced from the depths within these rainbow coloured tears
Gather in the many hairs of Val’s chinny chin chin

And without this magic liquid that from his eyes doth flow
This zombie vikings beard would all but fail to grow

And without the beard Val would lose his strength
Which is proportional to the beards girth and length

So to be strong he must be sad and cry like a child
That has lost his mummy in the supermarket aisle

See you next time

Malcolm The Magician

© Mulga 2012, Malcolm The Magician, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

This is my latest post for CreatureMag

An Ode To Malcolm The Magician

Malcolm the magician lived in a pot of gold
His tricks were bad and getting old

He pulled some rabbits outta his hat
Then they scampered away and in his beard they sat

They were plenty fed and upon his scraps they ate
They liked the lettuce but their favourite was steak

See you next time.

Mr T Bird Beard the Zombie

© Mulga 2012, Mr T Bird Beard the Zombie, Acrylic Paint and Posca Pen on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

I painted this dude for my fortnightly feature in CreatureMag called Mulga's Zombie Zoo in which I post a new zombie painting every 2 weeks.

An Ode To Mr T Bird Beard

He’s a tough looking zombie with a look that strikes fear
But under the surface he’s a sweet old dear

The birds really love him and nest in his beard
They know in their hearts there’s not a thing to be feared

If everyone had a beard that was this fully grown
Every little bird would always have a home

See you next time.

Skateboard Art - Bright Bearded Beanie Man with Curly Mo

© Mulga 2012, Skateboard Art - Bearded Beanie Man with Curly Mo, Acrylic and Posca on skateboard

This is a skate deck that I painted on with paint and then went over it with black posca pen.
He is a happy curled mustache wearing colourful bearded displaying beanie wearing dude.

An Ode to Bright Beard

His beard is bright
His grin is nice
He sleeps at night
His food has spice

Many colours did
His beard become
When in Madagascar
He ate chameleon

It's magical powers
Upon his beard unleashed
Like a bouquet of flowers
Or a whale beached

When he's sad it's blue
And angry it's red
Orange it turns
After butter chicken he's fed

When he's happy
That's what you now see
Many magical colours
Bright beard that's he

The End

See you next time

Bird Brain Bill The Zombie

© Mulga 2012, Bird Brain Bill The Zombie, Acrylic Paint and Posca Pen on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

I will have post every 2 weeks and they will be crazy zombie characters.
Head over to creaturemag.com and sign up to their email newsletter to stay in touch with all the zombie happenings or sign up to my newsletter on the left here.

An Ode To Bird Brain Bill the Zombie

His name is Bill and for a brain
He’s got a bird thus his name

His thoughts are scattered like bird seed
Of worms and kernels his mind does feed

Bill’s original brain was eaten alive
By Beardo the Weirdo doing the zombie jive

Beardo became Bill’s zombie dad
His beard is green and very rad

The early worm gets eaten alive
By the early bird who’s got the drive

One bird in the head is worth two in the tree
Especially when that space is free

Today Bill operates four birdseed shops
His brain is happy the food never stops

That’s the story of Bird Brain Bill
With a bird for brain and looks to kill

Skate Deck Art - Knight Beard

© Mulga 2012, Knight Beard, Acrylic Paint and Posca Pen on a Skate Deck

This is Knight Beard. He likes doing knighty stuff like jousting and wearing bits of metal on his body while riding a horse in the forest and chopping peoples heads off and eating a roast pig with an apple in it's mouth and going on crusades and being in Dan Brown books.

I drew him on a skate deck for Lodown my local skate shop.

He is for sale for $300 in aforementioned shop or email me.

Did you see I am in the running for a t-shirt design comp. See my last post for the details. Please vote for my design or Knight Beard will come and joust ya! Nah just joking, Knight Beard is friendly as a turtle.

See you next time.

They've Drunk Our Blood Now It's Time To Die!

 © Mulga 2012, They've Drunk Our Blood, Ink on Paper,9 x 14 cm
© Mulga 2012, Time To Die, Ink on Paper,9 x 14 cm

These are 2 artworks I completed in my notebook.
They are freaky characters.

Here's a poem I wrote about them and as usual it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
If any one wants to write their own poem I can put it up on the blog.

An ode to these two freaks

They've drunk our blood
We have no food
Our bellies do grumble
That is quite rude

We will arise
With pitch forks raised
Our rage intense
And justified

We'll gut those pigs
Who caused this mess
Dues will be paid
Of this we stress

Now it's time to die
There's no place to run
Only charred bones will remain
When we're done

Justice will be served
Just like a cake
At the birthday party
But it'll be your wake

The End

See you next time

Boris the Bearded Bow Tie Straw Hat Wearing Man

© Mulga 2012, Boris the Bearded Bow Tie Straw Hat Wearing Man, Ink on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

I was recently interviewed for an art blog.
If you would like to understand me and my art a bit better check it our here.

Here is a poem about the enigmatic Boris.

An Ode to Boris

This be Boris
He wears a hat
He is a florist
He shuns the cravat

His hat is straw
His vest is black
He abides by the law
His beard is whack

His bow tie does spin
Like a merry go round
He takes it on the chin
It gets him off the ground

He flies to work
He flies back home
He goes berserk
Like Thunder dome

Two men enter
But one man leaves
The bow tie is fast
It ducks and weaves

When he's in town
The flowers all bloom
When he's around
There's elbow room

He enjoys a puzzle
Like a mighty duck
He's known to guzzle
After he hits the puck

The End

Zombie King of the Sea

This painting is for sale for $320.
It is framed (total framed size is 79 x 108 cm).
If you would like to buy, email me at mulgasroom@gmail.com

This is what it looks like next to me. It is pretty awesome.

This is a poem

An Ode to the Zombie King of the Sea

I am Zombie
King of the Sea
All powerful
That is me

I inhabit the depths
Where Leviathan roam
Down many steps
I call my home

My beard is long
And it is red
The source of my power
Keeps me fed

Like the pits of Mordor
I am underwater death
Just dip in your toe
And take a breath

Upon dolphins and whale
I enjoy to feed
With but one bite
I devour with speed

If your down my way
Come and say hi
I'll invite you to stay
I'll bake a pie

The flavour could be
Penguin and shark
Bounty of the sea
This aint no lark

The End

Longbeard

© Mulga 2012, Longbeard, Ink on Paper, 32 x 80 cm

In order to grow a beard as awesome as this one you need to learn the ancient art of beard hypnotisation.
Once you master this ancient art you too can yield great results in the area of beard construction.

Here is a poem I wrote to commemorate the awesomeness of this beard.

The Majestic Afro and Beard of Jungle Man

© Mulga 2012, Jungle Man, Ink on Paper, 30 cm x 40 cm

This drawing is based on a photo of TV on the Radio singer Tunde Adebimpe that I found on the interweb. Some people thought it was a drawing of The Roots drummer, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson.
I'll tell you right now, those afro curls took a long time to draw!
Lucky I had the intention to finish this drawing or I would never have completed it.
It consumed my time like a killer whale consumes penguins.
See you next time.
