An Ode to Eden the Enigmatic Elephant

A mystery to one and all
A colourful massive beast
His wonder and his splendour
Spreads from the west to the east

Creator of the rainbow
Colours shot from his trunk
A magical conundrum
More pleasant then a skunk

And where there's rain, and where there's sun
You'll find this jolly beast
Having his lion's share of fun
At his giant moveable feast

And at the end of a long days work
He'll leave a pot of gold
Payment for the Leprechauns
As it has been foretold

Filthy Flamingo Surf Gang

© Mulga 2012, Filthy Flamingo Surf Gang, Ink on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

This is a piece of art of which I was commissioned to complete for Duvin Design, a Florida based surf lifestyle clothing label. Singlets are currently for sale with this art on it at Duvin Design's shop.

An Ode to the Filthy Flamingo Surf Gang

When a well so deep
Owned by the goons at BP
With oil began to leak
And gush into the sea

The formation of this gang
Did all begin
When this oil so putrid
Had all sunk in

These flamingos were pink
And now they're not
Transformed by stink
And oil so hot

These birds were friendly
Gentle and kind as well
But now they're mean
And they emit a smell

The other birds
Call them stinking greasers
But the flamingos retaliate
And kill all them geese's

They terrorize the coast
And the swamps of Florida
Trashing nests in trees
And strong arming fauna

Thus goes the tale
Of the flamingo surf gang
So filthy and rough
You better believe it mang

Lion Hat Leigh

© Mulga 2012, Lion Hat Leigh, Posca on Paper, 42 x 59 cm

An Ode to Lion Hat Leigh

Lion hat Leigh lives high in a tree
His Beard turned green, a sight to be seen

Because of his hat he's chief of the tribe
He's also very muscly, of this is do not lie

His hat was once a lion of the mountain kind
The taste of human flesh, it really did not mind

One night this lion it did pounce on Leigh
As he lay in his sleep he got bit on the knee

Then Leigh arose and battled this lion
Gave it a head butt and then it lay dying

He picked it up and put it on his head
Then lay back down to sleep in his bed

Cornwallis the Cowboy

© Mulga 2012, Cornwallis the Cowboy, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 42 x 59 cm

An Ode Cornwallis the Cowboy

Cornwallis the Cowboy is an interesting chap
His dad is old hank and he likes to clap

He uses his lasso to procure all that he needs
Not only things that go moo but also things like beans

He once lassoed a bus when ill fell his steed
With a minimum of fuss he got from A to B

Cornwallis likes to eat corn every day of the week
And his horse says neigh when it wants to speak

Larry the Lion King

© Mulga 2012, Larry the Lion King, Ink on Paper, 13 x 20 cm

An Ode to Larry the Lion King

Larry the Lion King
Just likes to say rah
He says it so much
He sounds like a galah

Down at the shops
And up on the hill
It's over the top
He sounds like a dill

It's rah this
And rah that
Can I have a burger
And some rah with that

That's what he says
When he goes to lunch
His friend got so angry
He gave him a punch

An Ode to Fernando the Feral Laser Beam Possum Wolf Bat

Of what I am not sure is this mammal
But one thing I know he's one freaky animal

He eats a warm meal every single night
Heated up by his mutant laser eyesight

Then he heads out to the mutant discotheque
And dances the night away looking the best

Zombie Reece prints available at My Magical Online Shop

An Ode To Zombie Reece

His name is Reece and he had a beard
So damn bushy and so revered

Then one day he made a decision
To cut that beard with a blade of precision

Everyone was sad and asked him why
He simply said "It was hot and in the summer I'll fry"

Mr Magic Aztec Sun Face

© Mulga 2012, Mr Magic Aztec Sun Face, Acrylic and Posca on Canvas,50 x 50 cm

Buy a print of this for $20 at my Magical Online Shop.

An Ode to Mr Magic Aztec Sun Face

Oh Mr Magic Sun Face
With a lovely mo and a grin so huge
Where is thy grace
When you ride the luge

You sit in the atmosphere
Collecting the asteroids and dust
From out of space
Your happiness is a must

2012 is your fateful year
Like a deer on the road
Something is shifting
Like a plague of cane toad

Boom boom go the drums
Clash bang the cymbals too
Everyone elongate your thumbs
And dip them in the magic brew

Colour and mystery
Is your cloak in the dark
Sometimes a great moustache
Will only get you so far

An Ode to Herman the Hipster

Herman the hipster is as smooth as butter
His yellow beard makes him seem real clever

His hipster goggles give him x-ray vision
And also allow him to read with precision

He reads in the park and sits under a tree
His favourite number is the number three

An article Bearded Gentlemen Music wrote about me

Hello friends,

I have pasted below a blog post from a cool website I did some art for. They wrote a bit about my art and music.

You can also check out their page at http://beardedgentlemenmusic.com and see some Mulga art adorning the walls.

Mulga the Artist

In case you have been living under a rock somewhere, we have made some sweet logo and design changes to the site and our various social media outlets. We now have a new custom designed logo / artwork from an Australian artist named Mulga.
I randomly discovered Mulga’s art when I was searching the term “afro with a beard” on Google images (I’m strange I know, I just REALLY love Afros and beards are magical) . In my search I discovered this amazing drawing called “The Majestic Afro and Beard of Jungle Man” which was a piece that Mulga had created based on a picture of Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio.  The intricacy and line work of the drawing were mind blowing and upon visiting his blog I also discovered that he was also obsessed with the mystical power of beards (see our first post) and zombie’s (two of my favorite things) so I began internet stalking him for a couple months.
After all of the stalking and admiring of all his new art he was creating, I finally got in touch with him and asked if he would be willing to create us an amazing piece of bearded art. He accepted and created us “Harry The Hipster”. Now, I know I am bit biased but “Hairy the Hipster has to be one of the greatest pieces of all time, far surpassing “The Mona Lisa” or “The Scream” or any other sub par paintings of that sort. I mean look at that picture, isn’t that insanely awesome!?
So, to tie this all back into music. I would like to mention that Mulga is also a musician and performs in his band Mulgas Room. They make some cool songs. Their latest “O’er the Hills” is a pretty catchy and well written tune.
The band has a bunch of other sweet tunes as well on their BandCamp, go check them out. http://mulgasroom.bandcamp.com/
I also got our Australian friend to send us a list of some of his favorite tunes:
Here are a few other of my favorite pieces of art that Mulga has created.
Mulga also designs t-shirts as well as skateboards and stuff like. So if
you dig any of his stuff get in touch and I’m sure he would be stoked to hook you up, or sell you a print of any pieces that you like.
If you look around on the internet there are a bunch of independent artists out there creating a lot of really great and interesting art work. When you get some time to waste I encourage everyone to hop on the ol’ net and do some searching. That’s how I found Mulga and my life and everyone else’s life that’s associated with BGM has taken a turn for the better. Because music, movies, and art are gifts from the gods. Haha.

Gary the Gorilla

© Mulga 2012, Gary the Gorilla, Coffee and Ink on Paper, 15 x 21 cm

Gary the Gorilla will be sitting in my sketchbook which will be at the Good Jelly sketchbook exhibition on the 3rd of September at Wollongong.
There will be 29 other pages with Gary's friends in the sketchbook. Yew!

An Ode to Gary the Gorilla

Gary is a Gorilla
A big beast of a thing
He lives in Manilla
He loves to sing

He is a superstar in Manilla
The biggest ape in town
He drinks a milkshake of vanilla
He can kill with his frown

Some call him the Gorilla Beiber
For his fame and his songs
The female chimps really love him
Even though he wears thongs

Snake Turban Steve

© Mulga 2012, Snake Turban Steve, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Snake Turban Steve

Snake Turban Steve is a weird and dangerous chap
His headwear of choice is the deadliest form of hat

If you give him any cheek his serpent will pluck out your eye
Then the beast's deadly venom will make you slowly die

But if you carry a flute you know you'll be alright
The snake will be yours and you'll have no fight

Square Beard

© Mulga 2012, Square Beard, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Square Beard

Walking down the street other beards stop and stare
Dumbfounded at the feat of a beard growing so square

I'll explain that this growth is not sculptured or trimmed
But that it's shaped from the zombies thoughts from within

The things that are pondered inside this beasts brain
Are then reflected in the hair that grows on his face

We Know/See Everything

© Mulga 2012, We Know Everything, Ink on Paper, Digitally Colored, 18 x 14 cm

© Mulga 2012, We see everything, Ink on Paper, Digitally Colored, 18 x 14 cm

These are 2 zombies that have special powers.

The first zombie dude reckons he know everything and this is signified by the diamond that he holds above his head.  The diamond sparkles and is ever so pretty. He wears a pretty cool singlet with nice stripes and a fish on it. Fish is his favorite food to eat after human brain.

The second zombie dude has a star on his forehead with little dashes coming out of it which alludes to the fact that he can see everything. Maybe he can maybe he can't, no-one really knows. He also has a ponytail that is too big for his head. That is because I drew the pony tail first and the body second, not the best way to do things.

Stripes of a colour stick together

This is a painting on canvas with acrylic paint and posca.
There are nine stripes under-girding this piece and 9 eye balls looking on in an indifferent gaze.
They are varied in colour.
I submitted this to Illustration Friday's current topic of "Stripes".

Le Crabtraption

This is le humble crab. I drew this on paper with gauche (with some water added) and posca pen.
The crab is a great contraption that God invented.
Crabs are cool because they can run sideways really well and because of this they are really good at soccer because they are excellent jockeyer's. It also helps to have 8 feet (not including the claws). However, sadly they are bad dancers because they have 4 left feet.
Please beware that crabs are decapods and they have teeth on the inside of their stomach, kinda like that pit in the desert that Jabba the Hutt hangs out at. That is one scary scene.

Here's a crab joke.
A man walks into a restaurant and says, "Do you serve crabs here?"
The waitress replies, "We serve everyone. Have a seat."

Here's a poem I composed about crabs in acrostic style. It doesn't ryhme (sorry).

Crabs are cannibals and will eat their best friend if he is a weakling
Running sideways is what crabs are good at (and also chomping stuff with their claws)
A crab can grow it's claw back if it gets lost/chomped by it's other claw/stuck under a rock etc (awesome!)
Blue swimmer crabs are a type of crab and are yummy.
Some say the superman of crabs is the Japanese Spider Crab. These crabs are huge (and scary)!

So crabs are not so boring after all. See you next time.

New Art By Mulga - Nordic Warlord

Some pics of the Nordic Warlord in progress below.

Here is a new artwork i painted with posca pens on cardboard.
He is a viking but i like to think of him as a Nordic warlord.
Viking's have a reputation of being pretty ferocious but this viking dude looks pretty mellow, even Zen like.
He appears to be a pretty tough dude but he has pig tails, it's kind of a contradiction.
He has a wicked mean beard and you can imagine all the sorts of food he gets stuck in there after a massive feast back at the village after coming back from a raid from over the other side of the ocean.
There's probably a boar drumstick hidden in there somewhere.

Mesmerize

Ink on paper.

I drew 19 animals.
Look into their eyes and be mesmerized.
Animals are cool to draw.
Can you name all the animals? You are better at animals than me if you can.
I don't know what some of these animals are called, especially that one with two heads. I think that one is not even a real animal, but it is my favorite animal in this drawing. Which is your favourite?
