Captain Laramie Lion

© Mulga 2012, Captain Laramie Lion, Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

I was commissioned to draw this for Duvin Design, a Florida based surf clothing company.

An Ode to Captain Laramie Lion

Captain Laramie the Lion
Never felt at peace
On the plains of Africa
As much as the seas

The odd one out
He favoured the fish
Over the buffalo
As his favourite dish

His journey began
The day he was caught
By illegal poachers
From Somewhere up north

Locked in a cage
And put upon a ship
Laramie picked the lock
And gave them the slip

He ate every man
Upon that boat
And became the captain
And wore the captain's coat

When he reached a port
He assemble a crew
A motley bunch
Drunk from too much brew

From that day forward
Laramie road the waves with ease
No longer king of the jungle
He was now king of the seas

The End

Rodney Rope Beard

© Mulga 2012, Rodney RopeBeard, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

If you like what you see you can buy a print at my online shop.

An Ode To Rodney Ropebeard

Rope Beard Rodney is an old sea salt
His poison of choice is whiskey and malt

He nearly met his maker, sent by Moby Slick
The great grand whale of Moby Dick

This whale was a zombie beast stained red
From the blood of the men upon which it has fed

Rodney tried to harpoon this deathly whale
But the odds were against him he was doomed to fail

It's skin was as strong as a golden orbs web
Harpoons were useless even to the head

Moby Slick devoured the entire stinking crew
Gobbled them up like some putrid human stew

Rodney did escape and he'll tell you the tale
Of his high seas adventure with Moby Slick the whale

The End

Captain Monkey Pants (with his Captain's Hat Beard and Pipe)

Mulga, Captain Monkey Pants, Ink on Paper, 26 x 36 cm

An Ode to Captain Monkey Pants

This man I can recommend
You will want him as your friend
This man has a beard
This man is weird

He’s a captain with a pipe
He likes his bananas ripe

His hat is cool and he pity’s the fool
Who aint seen the world and when he rides a wave
He likes that cave when it’s perfectly curled

He travels the world in his ship with his crew and cat
He once saved a monkey king who was in a flap

The monkey king gave him a gift
As a reward for the lift

It was a pair of pants
They were magical
They were fantastical
They did not contain ants

They were full of power
And they bloomed like a flower
When the time was right
They helped solve any plight

The story of Captain Monkey Pants is truly amazing
He’s everyone’s favourite captain who’s a little crazy

El Capitan rides the waves again

This is a drawing I completed for El Capitan surfing boards. They will prepare for you the most magical surfing board you can imagine.

This is a poem I completed just because...

El Capitan
He is an old sea dog and he surfs a log
He smokes a pipe and doesn't own a dog
On the high seas of life he stays outta strife
Except when he hunts for treasure and fights with a knife
A life long sailor like this here man
Prefers the raging ocean waters over any dry land
He's been here and there and seen this and that
He'll stare you down while he wears his hat
He's the El Capitano and he sings soprano
He likes the rum and he's got bravado

The end
